Students join 29th Eagle Quiz Competition to celebrate Envi Month 2019
“What the DENR wants to convey to all of us, especially to our students, is the importance of preserving and conserving the environment. We have to instill in our students’ consciousness that each one of us has to take a part in protecting the only Earth we live in,” said Grace Cariño, Officer-In-Charge, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources

As we continue to celebrate the Environment Month 2019 with the theme, “Beat Air Pollution,” the 29th Eagle Quiz Competition Provincial Elimination, through the partnership of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) and the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, was held last 20 June 2019 at Villa del Rey Function Hall, Capitol Complex, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur.

Of the 26 grade 6 participants, it was championed by David Angelo Mojar of Naga Parochial School, followed by Kris Matthew Darilay of Montessori Children’s School of Learning, and Leon James Nunez of Blessed Name of Mary Learning School. Whereas of the 23 grade 10 students, Michael Angelo Ortego of Camaligan National High School placed first, Ehnrowe Boy Tabirao of Naga City Science High School placed second, and Christian Neil Se of University of Saint Anthony placed third.

Each of the first placers received a cash prize of Php 6,000, second placers received Php 4,000, and the third placers received Php 2,000. Half of the cash prizes were given by the provincial government as a counterpart. Apart from the cash prize, the grade 10 placers were also awarded a scholarship grant by the province.

Not only was this quiz bee a chance for students to represent their schools, but it has also become an avenue for them to be educated and enlightened of the consequences that await if we neglect our nature.

“This competition is unlike other competitions I’ve joined. We were taught of the importance of taking care of the environment because as a youth, we are the ones who will inherit it and the ones who will suffer if we did not take care of it,” said Ehnrowe Boy Tabirao, 2nd placer.

As affirmed by Cariño of PENRO, it’s not only during the Environment Month rather, it’s the whole year round that PENRO has a strong partnership with the provincial government of Camarines Sur in protecting, conserving, and managing the environment.

After successfully acing the provincial elimination, the winners will compete in regional level on 27 June 2019 in Legazpi City, Albay.
